On being a part of “Restaurant Startup” on CNBC Prime (Part Two)

Enjoy-The-MomentWho watched “Restaurant Startup?” It was an amazing experience and the show has been very insightful about the realities of trying to make business decisions: menu selections, pricing and of course – designing a new location. I am thrilled to announce that mac-O-licious will open its doors in Valley Village on September 23rd. I LOVE the place! Yes!!!!  What I know for sure is this: you need:
– God’s grace, mercy and favor (done)
– Someone to believe in you. In this case it was Shirley at Westwood Financial who manages the property. I also thank The Valley Economic Development Center (VEDC) who gave me a loan. They knew I was prepared to take my entire life savings, but they worked quickly so I didn’t have to do that. Phew!! After working unsuccessfully with a Realtor for a year, I was driving down the street and saw a sign for a space. Something made me slow down, even though I drive by there all of the time. When I walked in and saw the space, it was EXACTLY what I had envisioned!  But here is the miracle – the previous tenant was willing to leave EVERYTHING! He even sold me the salt and pepper shakers!!!  This is rare in LA.
And this was THE DAY AFTER being rejected on Restaurant Startup.
Working with and having the power of Joe Bastianich and Tim Love behind me would have been tremendous. They are very astute and well connected. Yet, I have learned that God wants to remind ME (His child) that He doesn’t need any help.
– He sent people, strangers and friends to bless me.
– He sent friends and family on social media to pray for me.
– He was my General Contractor and we selected the workers to remodel the new restaurant.
– He sent Brian Edwards to recommend Ever Salcedo who created a unique interior design that I love!
– He sent Marla White of Whitehanded to lead the PR. Out of nowhere, He sends a Sister in Christ!!! She is a customer who knows her stuff.
– He sent Mark to move stuff, paint, and move more stuff…
– He sent Valley Sports Therapy to help me every time I was in pain from all of the stress.
– He sent my Sister to help with Marketing and Web Design.
– He sent my bff Katherine to come over and organize my house (that was becoming packed with boxes and causing me to be unsettled).
– He sent my wonderful daughter Natalie to help hire a good team of workers.
– He sent so many knowledgeable people to impart wisdom. Especially Dan at Sysco who made me cry twice as he described my journey (which has been painfully challenging but good learning.). Then he encouraged me and gave me EVERY tool I need to run a restaurant! YES!!!!
See, God doesn’t need any help. And I believe God will send the customers, and we will be able to feed the hungry. Those who can afford a nice Southern meal. Plus, we will still feed those who stand in line for food from the Kelly Chapman Ministries Mobile Pantry. I cried like a BABY on that TV Show. You have no idea.
Yes, those tears were real and came at a point where I was on TV, hearing mans voice and I quickly failed to hear God’s voice while standing in front of the camera.  God didn’t leave me though!  Hallelujah!!
So I give glory to God for this opportunity! I still minister in song, encourage others in the Lord and prayerfully – keep a roof over my head.  All while serving a nice hot bowl of mac’n’cheese. Thank you everyone for your love and support. I hope to see you at 5217 Laurel Canyon one day soon.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil 4:13)

I hate I had to miss the show due to work hours, but as I read this it brought tears to my eyes….I had gave up owning my own restaurant as much as I loved to cook. I wanted to get my degree in Culinary & Restaurant Management and it just never happened. Thank you for reminding me it’s never too late to work on my dream instead of working for someone else and their dream! Much love so happy to hear how you were still able to turn it around.

What a joy it was to watch you on Restaurant Startup. You did not get the money but you still Won. I was ecstatic when I saw this article on your up-and-coming opening. God answers prayer and fulfills the desires of our heart. I will be praying for you and the business and will have to make my way from Bermuda to try your heavenly Mac and Cheese.

Hi Kelly I am so very proud of you. I watched you on Restaurant Startup. Everyone that saw the show thought that your pitch should have been selected, but that is okay. God still had a plan for you and we know that God does not make mistakes. Now you have a brick and mortar that is all yours. God will continue to bless you as you have been so faithful to bless others. Love you girlfriend and God Bless You! I can not wait to come to LA and enjoy the mac and cheese.

Sitting here at 6:00 in the morning, coffee in hand and your words have made me cry. But it’s a good cry. In case you aren’t aware – you’re an inspiration and a mentor. I’m a believer that we are all God and God is in all of us. Heaven and Hell? Yep – right here under our noses the whole time! Your journey – both “reality based” and spiritual has been a joy to read and given me lots of food for thought. Mac On Kelly!
